New Year's Eve Yoga Mala with Music by Amy + Scott Durso

  • Yoga Garden PBO 184 East Street Pittsboro, NC, 27312 United States (map)

Mala is a sacred garland of 108 prayer beads.  Experiencing a New Year'sYoga Mala entails the power of people coming together in service to their community and in the setting of intentions for a new year through Surya Namaskar (sun salutations), mantra, meditation, sacred poetry, and pranam (prostration)- all connecting back to the universal power of 108.

All proceeds from this Yoga Mala will flow to Vidas de Esperanze, a non-profit health care clinic in Siler City, NC offering free services to our local community.  Vidas and it's volunteer staff of doctors, nurses, and intake personnel offer medical services ranging from OBGYN, dental, and primary care to patients who need this assistance.  Learn more about Vidas NC HERE

The significance of 108 appears along many cultures, faiths, and scientific study:

  • There are 108 chapters of the Rig Veda, 108 Upanishads, 108 marma points (sacred pressure points) in the body.
  • 108 beads on the Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist Mala, and the Catholic Rosary
  • The distances of the Sun and Moon from Earth are respectively 108 times the diameters of the Sun and Moon.
  • In Vedic culture, 108 represents the wholeness of existence.

This New Year's Yoga Mala is sustainable for all!  The activation of moving through Surya Namaskar can be modified to suit all levels.  Lunar prostrations, mantra, and savasana with the sacred music of Amy + Scott Durso provide the space to restore within the practice.  We ride the wave of Prana, of life, as a collective- each supporting the other.  Expect 2 to 2.5 hours inside of this sacred practice to allow for time to connect with one another and fully restore in counter-poses and savasana.

Great gratitude to Shiva Rea, the catalyst of the Global Yoga Mala project.

"The source of Love shines in the heart of all.  Seeing one in all creatures the wise forget themselves in the service of all.  The world is their joy, the One is their refuge; such as they are lovers of the One." Mundaka Upanishads
